He will penetrate your mind with absurd ease, Potter! (Sunday, June 28, 2009)
Love the new banner, even if I made it using a banner-making website and did not code it.

Hiya, school starts tomorrow and H1N1’s first wave will be as happy as ever. But to all those that are/were campaigning for holiday extensions, seriously, what is the use of an extension?

I don’t like school either. I know that we are much much much more susceptible to the virus if we go to school. Does that mean we don’t go to school for 2 years and survive on e-learning for 2 years? Pandemics don’t drop down and die out in a few weeks; they can last for a few years. Singapore stopped school during the SARS outbreak, we only had 238 cases and 33 deaths; why can’t we stop school now? Well, H1N1 isn’t half as deadly. I know there are fatalities but people die from seasonal flu too.

WHO estimates that the H1N1 flu pandemic will last for 2 years at the very least. The virus might not even be at its peak here, it’s actually ‘early in its evolution’. Are our 2009 June holidays going to last for 2 years after all? We are not experiencing severe community spread now; Singapore is still able, to some extent, isolate H1N1 clusters and quarantine people. The virus, at its peak, should be able to infect anyone who innocently walks out from his/her doorstep to buy lunch (or shopping). Of course, I hope that does not happen but MITIGATION phase, people. I’m such a government supporter :D

End of H1N1 related segment.

Another thing I’ve been seeing on blogs, other than WE WANT EXTENSIONS!, is R.I.P Michael Jackson. I’m sure he was a great singer and dancer, the King of Pop and all that, he didn’t deserve to die young, but gosh. Since where were we MJ fans? Anyway, for your knowledge, Farrah Fawcett, an actress & sex symbol passed away on 25 June too.

Also, I’ve been reading snob blogs. Not sure what they are? Well, basically, they are blogs set up by Harvard/Cambridge/Oxford graduates who are more than just proud they graduated from a top overseas university. They refer to people like us, who speak occasional Singlish, who probably aim to graduate from NUS/NTU/SMU and are unable to find deep messages about the Dawn Yang/Xiaxue saga as ‘frogs’ and ‘peasants’. The frog blog has been since locked but the peasants one is still open! http://theladymelissa.blogspot.com/ Actually I think it is rather entertaining to read. I don’t necessarily agree with peasant/chimpanzee-calling but it’s very funny and entertaining. It would be fun to churn out such posts if you have the language skills to do so.

Stay saliva-free, virus-immune and personal-hygiene-practicing!
Read some of those Harvard/Cambridge/Oxford grads blogs to improve your English. And if you like, use it to build up an elitist mindset as an NY girl.
