Stoicism (Tuesday, October 27, 2009)
So, today was The Return of The Language Arts, History & Science Papers. History and Language Arts were a total disappointment, they were abysmal (hell, I know that word too anyways) and absolutely unsatisfactory. To think I was relatively confident about these two subjects; I was feeling, you could even say, chagrined when the papers came back.

I do think the LA results reflect on the amount of preparation we’ve done, I really do. Unseen Prose was decent, not amazing but acceptable because we’ve done a lot of proses and poetry throughout the year. Composition was also satisfactory because it doesn’t take a lot of skills and preparation to write one, the emphasis is actually more on expression and narration. And now we come to Comprehension + Vocabulary and Summary. It was atrocious. I wonder if it’s just my class and if it is, allow me to kick start the annual post-EOY clobbering. IT WAS HORRIBLE. And like always, teachers seem to enjoy awarding one or two marks from another grade and make you feel all gutted (hey I learnt this word from a UK obstacle course game show. Obstacle courses are educational!) about it.

History ‘contained’ extremely strict marking. It’s not like my history has been particularly exceptional but seriously, I had higher expectations. That is all.

Science was the lone high point of the day. This makes me re-consider Triple Science because hmm why is my physics better than my LA and History? But the thought of dropping physics is so gratifying. Hey maybe if a miracle happens and my math mark skyrockets, I shall go apply for math and science talent program and compete with people who are genuinely interested. I MIGHT JUST BE ELIGIBLE! It’s possible you know. Maybe.

Now I shall write all willy-nilly (I learnt this word from a toddler called Aubrey on YouTube)

Hannibal, albeit its rave reviews, is actually slightly boring and tedious to read, due to its voluminous beginning, added to provide some background to the story from The Silence of the Lambs. Therefore, I went to the back and read the controversial ending which had a lot of Lecter, so that was interesting. However, I do hope that I will succeed in my quest to fully devour Hannibal, no pun intended.

Breakin'Dishes (Jazz dance)
I think they’re amazing. Watch if you dance! They're amateur dancers can you believe it.

Today there was a ‘humorous/endearing’ introduction to the upcoming prestigious Festival of Arts. Because of my ever-existent negativity, I just thought it was campy. Anyway, there was all this promotion of FOA, how it was an important event for the school and blah blah blah. ‘There will be this this this CCA performing…in the wonderful, grand, beautiful…HALL!” Yeah, talk about prestige. I know the school is trying to make up for the H1N1-FOA thing in June but if you’re going to do it, do it properly. The hall is a substandard, shitty venue to contain prestige and importance. I think the auditorium contains them fabulously; the hall has never possessed grandeur anyway.

What other willy-nilly issues to bring up…hmm?

Ah yes. Today we were told that ‘mannerisms’ is not a word. Since when was it not a word anyway? How come I can find it here, here and here?

Tomorrow I shall try to maintain a stoic expression throughout the day, in case grief tries to choke me up when I received Geography (bleh), Chinese (double bleh) and Math (hell). Bye bye, my Math A1 awaits me.
