LOA4FOA (Tuesday, November 03, 2009)
Sentosa trip and FOA rehearsal today; both were horrid.
Sentosa trip left you sandy (I think we might have brought back at least half of the beach in our shoes), uncomfortably sticky and tired. Of course, our teachers are not crazy; they know that it’s perfectly acceptable to allow about 400 + girls to make sandcastles in the torrid midday sun in the middle of Palawan Beach which has no visible traces of shade. Forget about breezy relaxing beaches, Singapore has only to offer disgusting ones. I applaud the organising classes for their effort put in to try let everyone have a good time; they did really well, but there’s no way I’d enjoy myself at a Singaporean beach in the afternoon. Singapore has freakish weather; it’s disgusting.

After that, there was an extremely long wait for FOA rehearsal to start; so we played cards, learnt the ‘Tell Me’ dance, ate and watched YouTube. Finally, it was time to change and we proceeded to the hall. If the rooftop hall didn’t have never-drying paint (really, the paint on the wall never dries; you can’t even ‘watch the paint dry on the wall’), the hall would probably usurp its position of the most dreaded place in NY.

Putting aside the embarrassment of wearing stockings on your head and facing about the entire school, the rehearsal was quite messy I think. And this shall all be blamed on the stupid hall. I know my constant and incessant ramblings/rants about the substandard venue of FOA may cause my posts to become trite but I will not stop until FOA is over.

As mentioned before, the acoustics are bad. EH THE AUDIENCE CANNOT HEAR THE MUSIC LAH! The stage is small. There is no space at all and this inhibits our performance quality. Our movements cannot be as big; the lack of space may distract us and cause us to be less immersed (direct translation from Mandarin) in the dance because of safety issues; this affects the music timing because since we don’t take as big movements, we take a quicker time to move from one point to another. This effectively screws up our timing. Can we perform on the floor too? Plus we have to do all this with a stocking on our head (by no means am I directing this at the choreography/costume but come on, we’re teenagers. We’ve low confidence at this turbulent period of growth!) Yeah I’m probably the Complain Queen of NYMD but after watching the FOA rehearsals of other CCA groups (all were wonderful), I can safely declare that the school is shortchanging us. (haha) We’ve strived so hard to gain a good award grade for SYF for the school, to boost and maintain the school’s reputation as a possessor of an all-round education system and this is the kind of venue they provide us with. I’m also really pro at exaggerating too, I think but it’s the truth.

Anyway, tomorrow will be exciting. LOA from assembly whoo; hopefully timing will be fine and let the zombies (and one girl) prevail :D
